Robert Prince

Robert C. Prince III, nicknamed " Bobby Prince ", is a composer of video game soundtracks. He worked in the 1990s mainly for id Software and Apogee/3D Realms and created music and sound effects for Commander Keen 4-6, Catacomb 3D, Wolfenstein 3D, Spear of Destiny, Doom, Rise of the Triad, Doom II, Duke Nukem II and Duke Nukem 3D and other games.

Prince attended the University of Georgia, where he graduated in 1966 with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. For a short time he studied at the University of Georgia before joining the army. After he returned, he obtained in 1972 his PhD in psychology and began to study law. Finally, he received his doctorate in this subject. For a long time he worked as a lawyer and began to casually deal with MIDI music. He worked with his brother with Cakewalk and texture.

Unexpectedly got Robert then an offer from Scott Miller ( Apogee Software ), who hired him on the spot. A few months later introduced him to John Romero of the then small software company id Software.

Individual pieces of music from games like Doom or Duke Nukem often have resemblance to then-current hard rock and metal songs, for example, by Pantera ( Mouth For War, Rise ), Alice in Chains ( Them Bones ), Metallica (Master of Puppets ) or Slayer ( Behind the Crooked Cross) on. Robert Prince knew how tight melodies could be inspired by their submission without that this had copyright infringement. In fact, none of the sampled bands ever launched legal action. The band Megadeth coverte later reversed even the theme tune to Duke Nukem 3D.
