Robert S. Rose

Robert Selden Rose ( * February 24, 1774 in Amherst County, Virginia; † November 24, 1835 in Waterloo, New York) was an American lawyer and politician. Between 1823 and 1827, and 1829-1831 he represented the State of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives. Congressman Robert L. Rose was his son.

Career

Robert Selden Rose was born about a year before the outbreak of the War of Independence in Amherst County. He attended community schools. In 1803 he moved to the Seneca County and settled in Fayette at Geneva. He went to agricultural work. In the following years he sat in 1811, 1820 and 1821 in the New York State Assembly. He took 1821 of the Constituent Assembly of New York at Albany in part.

As a result of fragmentation of the Democratic-Republican Party before and during the presidency of John Quincy Adams (1825-1829), he joined the Adams - Clay Group. In the congressional elections of 1822 for the 18th Congress rose was in the 26th electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he was the first representative of the 26th District of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives began its service on March 4, 1823. He joined the Adams Group. In 1824 he successfully ran for the 19th Congress. He then retired after March 3, 1827 from the Congress. In the following years, he joined the Anti- Masonic Party. In the congressional elections of 1828 for the 21th Congress, he was elected in the 26th electoral district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives, where he became the successor of Dudley Marvin and John Maynard on March 4, 1829 which together before the 26th district of New York in the U.S. House of Representatives representing. He retired after March 3, 1831 from the Congress.

Later he joined the Whig party to. Rose again went to agricultural work. He died on 24 November 1835 in Waterloo, when he participated in a meeting in the district court. His body was then buried in the Old Pulteney Street Cemetery, but later reburied at the Glenwood Cemetery in Geneva.
