Robert Sarah

Cardinal Robert Sarah ( born June 15, 1945 in Ourous, Guinea ) is a Cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church.

Life

Robert Sarah studied at seminaries in Guinea, France and Senegal. He received in 1969 the sacrament of Holy Orders. At the Gregorian University in Rome, he received his doctorate in theology at the Pontifical Biblical Institute and in Jerusalem in Biblical Studies.

On 13 August 1979 he was appointed by Pope John Paul II as the successor to Raymond Maria Tchidimbo, which had previously been imprisoned by the then-ruling communists in Guinea for nine years, Archbishop of Conakry in Guinea, receiving four months later by Giovanni Cardinal Benelli episcopal ordination. With only thirty-four years, Sarah was the youngest archbishop of the Catholic world church.

On 1 October 2001 that Pope John Paul II Robert Sarah to Rome and entrusted him with the office of the secretary of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples.

Robert Sarah was on 23 September 2009 by Pope Benedict XVI. appointed as a member of the Second Special Assembly of the Synod of Bishops for Africa ( 4 to 25 October 2009). On 7 October 2010, he was named Benedict XVI. as the successor of Paul Josef Cordes, president of the Pontifical Council "Cor Unum ".

In solemn consistory of November 20, 2010 Pope Benedict XVI took him. as cardinal deacon with the title Diakonia San Giovanni Bosco in via tuscolana in the College of Cardinals.

Pope Benedict XVI. ordered him on November 7, 2012 for the Pontifical special envoy for the Middle East. In Lebanon, he met representatives of the Christian churches in Syria, as well as refugees from Syria. In addition, he will lead the coordination of the support of Catholic charities in the way.
