Robert Smith Walker

Robert Smith Walker ( born December 23, 1942 in Bradford, Pennsylvania) is an American politician. Between 1977 and 1997 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Robert Walker attended the Penn Manor High School in Millersville and thereafter until 1961, the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg ( Virginia) to 1960. In 1964 he graduated from Millersville University, and in 1968 the University of Delaware in Newark. In between, he worked in the years 1964-1967 in the public schools in Millersville as a teacher. From 1967 to 1973 he was also a member of the National Guard of his state. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Republican Party launched a political career. Between 1967 and 1976 he served on the staff of Congressman Edwin duing Eshleman. From 1980 to 1990 he was a delegate or substitute a delegate to all Republican National Conventions.

In the congressional elections of 1976, Walker was in the 16th electoral district of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Edwin Eshleman on January 3, 1977. After nine elections he could pass in Congress until January 3, 1997 ten legislative periods. Since 1995 he has headed the Science Committee. Walker was considered a conservative MP. In 1996 he gave up another candidacy.

In 2001, Robert Walker was appointed by President George W. Bush as President of the Commission, which is concerned with the future of American space industry (Commission on the Future of the United States Aerospace Industry). He is currently chairman of an advisory committee, among others, the Department of Energy. He also leads a lobbying firm in the capital Washington.
