Joe Pitts

Joseph R. "Joe" Pitts ( born October 10, 1939 in Lexington, Kentucky) is an American politician. Since 1997 he represents the state of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Joseph Pitts visited until 1961 the Asbury College. Thereafter he served 1963-1969 in the U.S. Air Force, where he rose to become captain. He was also used in the Vietnam War. Subsequently, he studied until 1972 at West Chester University. In the following years he worked as a private businessman and as a teacher. He also proposed as a member of the Republican Party launched a political career. Between 1973 and 1997 he sat as an MP in the House of Representatives from Pennsylvania.

In the congressional elections of 1996, Pitts was in the 16th electoral district of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Robert Smith Walker on January 3, 1997. After previous seven elections he can exercise his mandate in Congress today. He is a member of the Committee on Energy and Commerce as well as in two sub-committees. He also is a member of the Commission on Security and Cooperation in Europe. In his previous term as congressman of the terrorist attacks on 11 September 2001, the Iraq war and the military mission in Afghanistan fell. Pitts is married and father of three children; his private residence is Kennett Square.
