Robert van den Hoecke

Robert van den Hoecke ( born November 30, 1622 Antwerp, † 1688) was a Dutch painter and etcher.

Robert van den Hoecke, brother of Jan van den Hoecke, was a pupil of his father and was admitted to the Guild of St. Luke at Antwerp in 1645.

He also worked as an architect, as he was appointed superintendent of fortifications in Flanders by the King of Spain. He painted cityscapes, festivals, battles, storage and march scenes containing very numerous, finely executed figures.

A number of such images ( the city of Ostend, camp, skating in Brussels, nocturnal conflagration ) owns the Belvedere at Vienna. He has also erased 22 leaves after his paintings.
