Robert Zünd

Robert ignition ( May 3, 1827 in Lucerne, † January 15, 1909 in Lucerne ) was one of the most important Swiss painters of the 19th century.

Life

Ignition was the son of a middle-class family. After attending high school in Lucerne, he was taught in the workshop of Jakob Schwegler (1793-1866) in drawing and painting. At the suggestion of the painter Joseph Nidwaldner Zelger 1848 he moved to Geneva, where he was first informed later by François Diday, of whose pupils Alexandre Calame.

In spring 1851, he met Rudolf Koller, with whom he shared a great friendship from now on. A planned joint studio of the two did not materialize because everyone was too strongly associated with its origin city. 1889 drove the two together at the international art exhibition in Munich.

1852 ignition traveled to Paris and studied at the Louvre, the works of Dutch and French masters of the 17th century. 1860 was Zünd first major work The Harvest, now in the Kunstmuseum Basel. In the same year he copied in the Gemäldegalerie in Dresden works of Claude Lorrain, Ruisdael and Paulus Potter.

1863 ignition took up residence on the outskirts of Lucerne, to which henceforth he rarely left for a long time. Between 1867 and 1877, Zünd faith shows that it receives biblical themes in his paintings, such as in The Road to Emmaus by 1877.

In 1882 he completed the oak forest, one of his most famous works. The image was based on an earlier study and on a smaller version of 1859. 1881 Gottfried Keller visited on his " humble art Reischen " spark in his studio and was greatly impressed by the big version. He saw it approaches the true ideal real landscape or the real ideal landscape. The oak forest was exhibited in 1883 at the Zurich regional exhibition. A black and white reproduction of the oak forest was held for a photograph. Today the picture is in the possession of the Kunsthaus Zurich. Its also appropriate for large format image Buchenwald was built from 1886 to 1887 and is now in the Museum of Art Lucerne.

1906 appointed the University of Zurich Robert ignition honorary doctorate. After ignition, a street is named north-east of the main station in Lucerne.

Conception of art

Zünd conception of art is characterized by a special closeness to nature and its extremely naturalistic, detailed painting style. His motives were mainly idyllic landscapes around Lucerne. He avoided depict modern facilities and buildings such as railways in his paintings.

In his landscapes, the individual elements according to the principles of the classical theory of composition are arranged.
