Roberto Szidon

Roberto Szidon ( born September 21, 1941 in Porto Alegre, † December 21, 2011 in Dusseldorf ) was a Brazilian pianist.

Life

Roberto received first piano lessons at Szidon Ilse Wöbcke Warncke, a student of Conrad Ansorge, which in turn was in turn a student of Franz Liszt Weimar. At age nine, Roberto Szidon debuted in his Brazilian hometown. He graduated from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul in Porto Alegre his studies. He studied composition at Natho Henn, Enio de Freitas e Castro, Karl Faust and Joanîdia Sodré. Later, his piano studies led him in his home country to Arnaldo Estrella, Homero de Magalhães and Lili Kraus, in the United States of America to Ilona Kabos and Claudio Arrau, to Spain to Arthur Rubinstein and Italy to Felicja Blumental. In 1963, he began his career as a concert pianist. In 1967 he relocated to Germany. There he first took numerous recordings for the German Grammophon and exerted an active concert career and devoted himself later reinforced educational tasks at the music schools of Hannover and Dusseldorf, where he succeeds Professor David Levine took at the Robert- Schumann-Hochschule. Among his famous pupils was Tobias Koch. In addition to numerous awards he received in 1974 the de ledge Lopes net medal of the State of Rio Grande do Sul for exceptional performance in the field of Art, 1982, the officer grade of the Order of Rio Branco, he was the President of the Federative Republic of Brazil awarded. From August 1970 resided until his death, and he worked with his partner, the pianist and composer Richard Metzler ( November 12, 1948 Chicago - February 11, 2013 Dusseldorf ) together.

Repertoire

In addition to South American music such as Heitor Villa-Lobos, Ernesto Nazareth, Francisco Mignone, Camargo Guarnieri Mozart and Chiquinha Gonzaga Roberto Szidon stepped out often with unusual repertoire. He also played the Concord Sonata by Charles Ives as the complete work cycles of the " Hungarian Rhapsodies " by Franz Liszt and the piano sonatas Alexander Skriabins one on record. A close cooperation chamber music connected him over many years with violinist Jenny Abel.
