Robertsfors

Robertsfors is a place ( tätort ) in the Swedish province of Västerbotten County and the historic province of Västerbotten. The town is located 60 km northeast of Umeå on the European road E4 and is capital of the municipality of the same name.

History

Robertsfors is an old industrial town. 1758 a smelter was established, which was expanded in 1782 by a hammer mill and other facilities. In the course of further development of a port, shipyard were among others created, as well as the railway line Robertsfors - Sikea built in 1878. The metallurgical and iron mill was shut down in the 1890s and today is on the area an industrial museum.

Economy

Today, the industrial company ABB has a plant in Robertsfors. The village is also the northernmost glass factory in Sweden, are made in hand blown glass.
