Rock Your Baby

Rock Your Baby is a song by George McCrae from the year 1974.

Formation

The title was written by Harry Wayne Casey and Richard Finch, which provided the piece for their own group KC and the Sunshine Band. Originally Rock Your baby should be an instrumental number, but then Casey and Finch decided to compose a text. In the recording of the song Casey had, however, find that he could not reach the necessary high pitches. When searching for a suitable replacement the choice first fell on George McCrae's wife Gwen. But this was late at the agreed admission date, so that he eventually contributed the song itself. His falsetto voice that was it that coined the title decisively.

Success

Rock Your Baby was one of the first big hits in the fledgling era of disco music. In July 1974, the title went to No. 1 on the U.S., UK and German charts. While the top position in the U.S. and the UK could be said for three and two weeks respectively, remained the single in Germany, ten weeks in a row on the first place and became the best-selling title of the year. 1987 managed to rock your baby in a remixed version by Paul Hardcastle re-entry into the German charts and remained there for several weeks.

Rock Your Baby George McCrae was greatest success. With more than eleven million copies sold, the title is also one of the most successful singles of all time.

Casey and Finch wrote and produced yet another half dozen chart hits for George McCrae. Even more successful they were with their own music project KC and the Sunshine Band, which brought a number of other number-one hits for the duo after the success of Rock Your Baby.

Cover

The song was later covered several times, including by KC and the Sunshine Band, KWS, the Italian singer Spagna and the east La Palöma Boys.
