Rockledge is a city in Brevard County in the U.S. state of Florida with 24,926 inhabitants ( 2010).

Geography

Rockledge is located on the Intracoastal Waterway in close proximity to the Atlantic coast. The city is located about 30 km south of Titusville and 70 km east of Orlando.

Demographics

According to the 2010 census, the then 24,926 inhabitants distributed to 11,240 households. The population density was 806.7 inh. / Km ². 78.7 % of the population were white, 14.5% African American, 0.3% Native American and 2.4% Asian Americans. 1.5% were members of other ethnic groups and 2.6% in different ethnic groups. 6.4% of the population were Hispanic or Latino.

In 2010, children under the age of 18 and 29.9 % of all households lived in 29.4 % of all households with persons at least 65 years. 68.6 % of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or a parent with offspring ). The average size of a household was 2.42 persons and the average family size is 2.86 people.

24.2% of the population were younger than 20 years, 21.2% were 20-39 years old, 31.1% were 40-59 years old and 24.2% were at least 60 years old. The median age was 44 years. 47.9 % of the population were male and 52.1% female.

The average annual income was $ 57,835, while 5.9 % of the population lived below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 94.91 % of the population spoke Spanish 3.37% and 1.72 % had a different mother tongue.

Traffic

The metropolitan area is from Interstate 95, from U.S. Highway 1 (SR 5) and Florida State Road 519 crosses. In addition, the freight railroad of the Florida East Coast Railway passes through the city. The nearest airport is Melbourne International Airport ( around 30 km south).

Crime

The crime rate in 2010 was 212 points ( U.S. average: 266 points ) within the average range. There were 14 robberies, 58 injuries, 159 burglaries, 553 thefts and 30 thefts.
