Rockpalast

Rockpalast is a television program of the WDR. It was first, then produced 1974-1986 again from 1995. From 1990 to 1994, the program was broadcast, entitled Rocklife whose concept was inspired by the Rockpalast.

The Rockpalast was known primarily for the Rockpalast night, a Europe-wide broadcast, around six-hour live broadcast with performances of internationally known bands and musicians. Peter Rüchel ( " father of rock palace " ) is, together with director Christian Wagner inventor, heart, soul and face of the rock palace. In 2003, Peter Rüchel adopted at the Rock -am- Ring festival from the active region of the broadcast, but left to the Rockpalast continue as a consultant and editor of the Rockpalast DVD series faithful. His successor is Peter Sommer.

From 1977 to 1986 so-called rock nights were held, which were transmitted live from each of the Essen Grugahalle. The several hours of live programs presented high-profile international top acts and until then relatively unknown artist.

The first Rockpalast Festival was broadcast on the night of 23 on July 24, 1977; as a musician at that time were shown live in Germany, Austria, Ireland, Denmark, Norway and Sweden, Rory Gallagher, the group Little Feat and Roger McGuinn Thunderbyrd. The rock nights were transferred in parallel from the WDR radio and other ARD radio stations, so that the viewers could hear the music in better quality using its stereo.

The theme song of the rock palace is the beginning of the play Believe in Me from the 1975 album hotline of the J. Geils Band.

As part of the rock palace were and also broadcasts to the individual concerts and various festivals such as Bizarre Festival, Burg Herzberg Festival, Crossroads Festival, Area4, Wacken, Rock am Ring, or the open-air festival at the Loreley be produced.

Between 1981 and 1986 there was also a radio show Rockpalast in the WDR radio. Presenters were Peter Rüchel and Alan Bangs. The contents of the two-hour music program employed ( Thursdays, 22-24 clock ) predominantly with bands and musicians who were also presented on the television program. Peter Rüchel played in every radio show at least one song of his favorite musician Bruce Springsteen.
