Rockwood is a small town in eastern Tennessee. The population census of 2000 yielded nearly 5700 residents. Rockwood was built in the late 1860s as a place of business for the Roane Iron Company on Cherokee land. The initial impetus came from the then General William T. Wilder, the place name derives from William O. Rockwood, the first president of the company.

Geography

Rockwood is located on the eastern edge of the Cumberland Plateau, where it merges into Crab Orchard Mountains. The western boundary of the parish is also simultaneously the boundary between Eastern Time Zone and Central Time Zone (see time zone # UTC -5h to UTC -4h ). A large part of the southern border is formed by the river Tennessee.
