Rodi Kratsa-Tsagaropoulou

Rodi Kratsa- Tsagaropoulou (Greek Ρόδη Κράτσα - Τσαγκαροπούλου, born April 15, 1953 in Zakynthos ) is a Greek politician of the conservative party New Democracy ( ND) and a member. From 2007 until January 2012, she was Vice President of the European Parliament.

Life

Kratsa- Tsagaropoulou studied sociology with a focus on Political Sociology at the University of Geneva and completed a postgraduate studies at the Institute for European Studies. They also took part in the activities of the European Cultural Centre in Geneva, on whose board it was 2004 member. From 1987 Kratsa- Tsagaropoulou held various party posts in the ND; among other things, she was a member of the Secretariat of International Relations, the Secretariat for Local Self-Government and the Secretariat for Women's Affairs. In 1998 she was elected councilor in Athens.

In the European elections in 1999 Kratsa- Tsagaropoulou won a seat in the European Parliament, where they like all ND members of the Group of the European People's Party joined for the first time. In the European elections in 2004 and 2009, they were each re-elected. From January 2007 to January 2012, she was Vice President of the Parliament.

During her time as an MEP was Kratsa- Tsagaropoulou member of several parliamentary committees: In the 2004-09 legislative session of the Committee on Transport and Tourism, the Committee on Budgetary Control and the Committee on Women and Gender Equality rights; for the legislative period 2009-14 in the Equality Committee and the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs. Among the areas in which Kratsa- Tsagaropoulou became involved in these committees included the marine protection, gender equality and the Euro -Mediterranean Partnership. From 2004 to 2009 she was a member of the Euro -Mediterranean Parliamentary Assembly, which fell as Vice President in their duties. She also served as vice president of the Mediation Committee under the co-decision procedure.

In addition Kratsa- Tsagaropoulou went to civil society activities. So it was 1989 Founder and President of the European Centre for Communication and Information in Athens, in 1998 she became deputy leader of the Greek section of the European Movement. In addition, she co-founded the Greek section of the Union of European Federalists. Since 1999 she has been Chairman of the Brussels-based International Organisation for the support of women in Europe. For their activities Kratsa- Tsagaropoulou received various awards: Among other things, it was founded in 2004 Chevalier of the French Legion of Honour for their contribution to European integration, 2007, she was awarded the Anna Lindh Euro-Mediterranean Foundation for gender equality. In 2008 she was the Greek Orthodox Patriarch Theophilos III. appointed by the Jerusalem Knight of the Holy Sepulchre.

Kratsa- Tsagaropoulou is married with Apostolos Kratsas, a former Greek deputies and ministers of transport of ND. The couple has two children.
