Rodney MacDonald

Rodney Joseph MacDonald ( born January 2, 1972 in Inverness, Nova Scotia ) is a Canadian politician. From February 24 2006 to 19 June 2009, he was Prime Minister of the province of Nova Scotia.

Biography

MacDonald studied at St. Francis Xavier University and received a Bachelor of Science in Sports. Besides working on a career as a professional musician. MacDonald taught at the school in Chapel Mi'kmawey Iceland, Nova Scotia.

MacDonald is a nationally known folk musicians, who already had several tours in the Atlantic provinces of Canada, Central Canada and the New England states of America. In 1998, he received two nominations for the East Coast Music Awards, and was Vice President of GlennRod Music Incorporated.

Since the 1999 elections MacDonald is a member of the House of Representatives of Nova Scotia, where he represents the electoral district in the west of Inverness Cape Breton Island. In the 2003 elections he was re-elected and then stood in front of several ministries ( Minister of Tourism, Culture and Heritage, Minister of Health and Minister for Immigration ).

In 2005, after the announcement of the then Prime Minister John Hamm to retire, MacDonald was a candidate for the party presidency of the Progressive Conservative Association of Nova Scotia. On 11 February 2006, he was elected to Hamm's successor in the second round, and sworn in on 24 February as 26th Prime Minister of Nova Scotia. MacDonald is the second youngest Prime Minister of this province, and was at that time the youngest Prime Minister of Canada.

In the provincial elections on 13 June 2006 Macdonald's party lost, although a few seats, but remained the strongest force, so that he could continue the minority government. On 4 May 2009, the government lost a vote of no confidence, then Deputy Governor Mayann Francis dissolved the parliament and early elections ansetzte. Although Macdonald was able to maintain its headquarters in Inverness on 9 June 2009, the Progressive Conservatives fell, they fell to third place. Macdonald's successor Darrell Dexter of Nova Scotia, New Democratic Party took office on 19 June 2009.
