Rokkasen

The Six best Waka poets or the genii of poetry (Japanese六 歌仙, Rokkasen ) were six outstanding waka poet in the early Heian period, mentioned in the preface to the poem anthology Kokin - Wakashū (905).

One of the editors of the Kokinshu, Ki no Tsurayuki, referring to the six poets as " famous poet of the recent past ". The poets were assessed briefly and later received the title of " Immortal Waka " ( Kasen ):
