The Ponte Romana (also called Trajan's Bridge ) is a stone arch bridge in Chaves, Portugal over the Rio Tamego. It connects the city of Chaves, a suburb on the south western shore and is used as road and pedestrian bridge.
The bridge has twelve visible arches with an internal diameter of up to 8.90 m. However, the building is made under the present road continues on both sides of the river bounded by masonry. Its total length is therefore given as 140 m.
The construction of the bridge was probably begun in the reign of Trajan at the end of the first century in the former Roman garrison town Aquae Flaviae, which one of the two pillars can be seen on the bridge. Accurate data about the start and the end of the construction are not known. She was an important part of the Strait of Asturica Augusta ( Astorga ) to Bracara oppidum Augusta ( Braga).
On the bridge, two stone steles were erected, which shall bear the following inscriptions:

The bridge stands as Monumento Nacional a historical monument.
