Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Bratislava

The Archdiocese of Bratislava or Pressburg Archdiocese (Latin: Archidioecesis Bratislaviensis, Slovak:. Bratislavská arcidiecéza or Arcibiskupstvo Bratislava) is a Roman Catholic Archdiocese in Slovakia, based in Bratislava.

History

The area of present-day Archdiocese of Bratislava under stood from the May 29, 1922 canon law of the Apostolic Administration of Trnava, which was carved out of the Archdiocese of Esztergom. On December 30, 1977, Pope Paul VI. these Governorship with the Apostolic Constitution Qui divino to the archbishopric Trnava.

By decree of the Congregation for Bishops on 31 May 1995, the Archdiocese of Trnava was renamed the Archdiocese of Bratislava - Trnava and raised in Bratislava St. Martin's Co-Cathedral.

On 14 February 2008 announced Pope Benedict XVI. with the Apostolic Constitution Slovachiae Sacrorum from the area around Bratislava from the Archdiocese of Bratislava - Trnava and erected the Archdiocese of Bratislava. At the same time the seat of the Metropolitan of Trnava was moved to Bratislava and thus the existing ecclesiastical province of Bratislava - Trnava restructured the church province of Bratislava, in addition to the at that time existing dioceses Nitra and Banská Bystrica also neuumschriebene Archdiocese of Trnava and the newly erected Diocese of Žilina as suffragan belong.
