Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Cartagena

The Archdiocese of Cartagena (Latin: Archidioecesis Carthaginensis in Columbia, Spanish: Arquidiócesis de Cartagena ) is a location in Columbia Roman Catholic archdiocese based in Cartagena.

History

The Archdiocese of Cartagena was established on April 24, 1534 by Pope Clement VII from cessions of territory of the Diocese of Panamá as Diocese of Cartagena. It was the archbishopric of Seville is a suffragan. On March 22, 1564 the Diocese of Cartagena was the archbishopric of Santafe de Nueva Granada is a suffragan. The Diocese of Cartagena was on 31 August 1804 from parts of its territory to the foundation of the diocese Antioquía.

On 20 June 1900, the Diocese of Cartagena by Pope Leo XIII was. raised to an archbishopric. The Archdiocese of Cartagena announced on June 20, 1912 parts of its territory establishing the mission sui juris San Andrés y Providencia from. Other annexations took place on June 12, 1924 establishing the Apostolic Sinú Prefecture, on July 7, 1932 with the foundation of the diocese and Barranquilla on 20 November 1954 foundation of the diocese Monteria. On April 25, 1969, the Archdiocese of Cartagena were parts of its territory from establishing the dioceses Magangué and Sincelejo.
