Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Corrientes

The Archdiocese of Corrientes (Latin: Archidioecesis Corrientensis, Spanish: Arquidiócesis de Corrientes ) is a location in Argentina Roman Catholic archdiocese based in Corrientes.

History

The diocese of Corrientes was established on January 21, 1910 by Pope Pius X with the Papal Bull Nobilis Argentina Res Publica out of territory of the Diocese of Paraná and the Archdiocese of Buenos Aires is a suffragan. On April 20, 1934, the diocese of Corrientes was the Archdiocese of Paraná is a suffragan. The diocese of Corrientes announced on February 11, 1957 from parts of its territory to the founding of the Diocese of Posadas. On April 10, 1961 further cession of territory was the foundation of the Diocese of Goya.

On April 10, 1961, the Diocese of Corrientes was by Pope John XXIII. raised to an archbishopric. The Archdiocese of Corrientes was on July 3, 1979 from parts of its territory to the founding of the Diocese of Santo Tomé.
