Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Malanje

The Archdiocese of Malanje (Latin: Archidioecesis Malaniensis ) is a location in Angola Roman Catholic archdiocese headquartered in Malanje.

History

Pope Pius XII. founded it with the Apostolic Constitution Inter sollicitudines on 25 November 1957 on surrender of territory of the Diocese of Silva Porto and of the Archdiocese of Luanda, where it was assumed as a suffragan.

On August 10, 1975, lost part of its territory to the diocese Henrique de Carvalho and got some areas of the Archdiocese of Luanda.

On April 12, 2011, the diocese by Pope Benedict XVI was. elevated to the rank of Metropolitanerzdiözese and their subordinates the dioceses Uije and Ndalatando as suffragan sees. The previous Bishop Luis María Pérez Onraita Aguirre was appointed the first archbishop.
