Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Monrovia

The Archdiocese of Monrovia (Latin: Archidioecesis Monroviensis ) is a location in Liberia Roman Catholic archdiocese headquartered in Monrovia.

History

The Archdiocese of Monrovia was posted on April 18, 1903 by Pope Leo XIII. cessions of territory from the Apostolic Vicariate of Sierra Leone established as Apostolic Prefecture of Liberia. The Apostolic Prefecture of Liberia was founded on April 9, 1934 by Pius XI. charged with the apostolic constitution Quae magis christiano Apostolic Vicariate. On 2 February 1950, the Vicariate Apostolic of Liberia were from parts of its territory establishing the Apostolic Prefecture of Cape Palmas. The Apostolic Vicariate of Liberia was renamed on February 2, 1950 in Apostolic Vicariate of Monrovia.

On 19 December 1981, the Apostolic Vicariate of Monrovia was elevated to an archdiocese by Pope John Paul II with the Apostolic Constitution Patet Ecclesiae. The Archdiocese of Monrovia was on November 17, 1986 from parts of its territory to the founding of the Diocese of Gbarnga.
