Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Pretoria

The Archdiocese of Pretoria (Latin: Archidioecesis Praetoriensis ) is a location in South Africa, diocese of the Roman Catholic church located in the capital of South Africa, Pretoria.

History

The French religious clergy and Bishop Charles Jolivet, OMI -Constant attended as Vicar Apostolic of Natal distant part of his mission area and celebrated in Pretoria on 8 June 1877, the first mass.

The Archdiocese of Pretoria was April 9th, 1948 initially as Apostolic Vicariate of Pretoria (Latin for " Praetoriensis " ) from the Apostolic Vicariate of Kimberley and Transvaal Vicariate out by Pope Pius XII. founded. On January 11, 1951 rose Pius XII. the Vicariate Apostolic Constitution with the Suprema Nobis with the archbishopric seat of a metropolitan one, so that the church of the same province was created.

The Archdiocese of Pretoria are assigned to the suffragan Gaborone, Polokwane, Rustenburg, Tzaneen and the Apostolic Vicariate of Francistown.
