Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Santiago de Cuba

The Archdiocese of Santiago de Cuba (Latin Sancti Jacobi Archidioecesis in Cuba) is a community on Cuba Roman Catholic archdiocese based in Santiago de Cuba.

History

The Archdiocese of Santiago de Cuba was established as a diocese Baracoa in 1518 by Pope Leo X with the Apostolic Constitution Super specula out of territory of the Diocese of Santo Domingo and the archbishopric of Seville is a suffragan. The Diocese of Baracoa was renamed on April 28, 1522 Diocese of Santiago de Cuba. In 1527 the diocese of Santiago de Cuba, the territory of the dissolved Diocese of Concepción de la Vega was affiliated. The Diocese of Santiago de Cuba was placed under the Archdiocese of Santo Domingo, suffragan on February 12, 1546. On September 10, 1787 Diocese of Santiago de Cuba were parts of its territory from the foundation of the Diocese of San Cristobal de la Habana.

The Diocese of Santiago de Cuba was elevated by Pope Pius VII, with the Apostolic Constitution In universalis Ecclesiae regimine on 24 November 1803 Archdiocese. On 10 December 1912, the Archdiocese of Santiago de Cuba were parts of its territory from the foundation of the Diocese of Camagüey. A further transfer of territory took place on 8 January 1979 foundation of the diocese of Holguín.
