Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Tunja

The Archdiocese of Tunja (Latin: Archidioecesis Tunquensis, Spanish: Arquidiócesis de Tunja ) is a location in Columbia Roman Catholic archdiocese headquartered in Tunja.

History

The Archdiocese of Tunja was born on July 29, 1880 by Pope Leo XIII. out of territory of the Archdiocese of Nueva Granada en Santafe built as a diocese Tunja. It was the archbishopric of Santafe de Nueva Granada is a suffragan. On July 17, 1893 Diocese of Tunja were parts of its territory from the Apostolic Vicariate establishing Casanare. A further transfer of territory took place on March 7, 1955 to the founding of the diocese Duitama.

On 20 June 1964, the Diocese of Tunja was by Pope Paul VI. charged with the Apostolic Constitution Immensa Christ to the archbishopric. The Archdiocese of Tunja adopted on 26 April 1977 from parts of its territory to the founding of the dioceses Chiquinquirá and Garagoa.
