Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Villavicencio
The Archdiocese of Villavicencio (Latin: Archidioecesis Villavicentiensis, Spanish: Arquidiócesis de Villavicencio ) is a location in Columbia Roman Catholic archdiocese based in Villavicencio.
History
The Archdiocese of Villavicencio was born on June 23, 1903 by Pope Leo XIII. built with the Apostolic Constitution Cum perplures of cessions of territory of the Archdiocese of Bogotá as Territorialprälatur Intendencias Orientales. The Territorialprälatur Intendencias Orientales was the Archdiocese of Bogotá assumed as suffragan. On March 16, 1908, the Territorialprälatur Intendencias Orientales was elevated by Pope Pius X as Apostolic Vicariate and renamed as Apostolic Vicariate of Los Llanos de San Martín. The Apostolic Vicariate of Los Llanos de San Martín was on June 9, 1949 from parts of its territory establishing the Apostolic Prefecture Mitú. On 9 June 1949, the Apostolic Vicariate of Los Llanos de San Martín was renamed Vicariate Apostolic Villavicencio. The Apostolic Vicariate of Villavicencio, on 16 January 1964 from parts of its territory establishing the Apostolic Prefecture Ariari.
On February 11, 1964, the Apostolic Vicariate of Villavicencio was by Pope Paul VI. with the Apostolic Constitution Universae regimes applicable to the diocese. The Diocese of Villavicencio was raised on July 3, 2004, Pope John Paul II with the Apostolic Constitution ad totius dominici to an archbishopric.
