Roman Catholic Diocese of Baie-Comeau
The Diocese of Baie- Comeau (Latin: sine Dioecesis Comoënsis ) is a location in Canada Roman Catholic diocese based in Baie- Comeau.
History
The Diocese of Baie- Comeau was born on May 29, 1882 by Pope Leo XIII. out of territory of the diocese of Rimouski built as Apostolic Prefecture of St. Lawrence Gulf. On September 12, 1905, the Apostolic Prefecture of St. Lawrence Gulf was by Pope Leo XIII. elevated to the Apostolic Vicariate. The Apostolic Vicariate of St. Lawrence Golf announced on July 13, 1945 from parts of its territory to the founding of the Apostolic Vicariate of Labrador.
On November 24, 1945, the Apostolic Vicariate of St. Lawrence Gulf was by Pope Pius XII. raised to the bishopric. The Diocese of St. Lawrence Gulf was renamed on 29 February 1960 in the diocese of Hauterive. On 14 July 1986, the name was changed in the diocese of Baie -Comeau. Parts of the territory of the Diocese of Labrador City - resolution Schefferville were incorporated on 31 May 2007 to the Diocese of Baie- Comeau.
The Diocese of Baie- Comeau is the Archdiocese of Rimouski is a suffragan.
