Roman Catholic Diocese of Belize City-Belmopan

The Diocese of Belize City - Belmopan (Latin: Dioecesis Belizepolitana - Belmopana ) is a Roman Catholic diocese based in Belize City in Belize.

History

Pope Leo XIII. founded on June 10, 1888, the Apostolic Prefecture of British Honduras from annexations of the Apostolic Vicariate of Jamaica and imputed it to the Archdiocese of Port of Spain, suffragan. This was collected on January 3, 1893 the Vicariate Apostolic of British Honduras and on 29 February 1956 to the Diocese of Belize.

On December 15, 1925, the name of the Vicariate Apostolic of British Honduras was renamed Belize and on 31 December 1983 it adopted its current name.
