Roman Catholic Diocese of Breda

The diocese of Breda (Latin: Dioecesis Bredanus ) is one of the seven Roman Catholic dioceses of the Dutch church province. The diocese covers parts of the province of Zeeland and North Brabant.

Forerunner of today's Breda diocese is founded from the Vicariate Apostolic of 's-Hertogenbosch out on March 22, 1803 Vicariate Apostolic of Breda. On March 14, 1853 Vicariate with additional fields from the Archdiocese of Mechelen and the diocese of Ghent was raised to the bishopric.

The present church of St. Anthony in the center of Breda was from 1853 to 1876 Cathedral of the diocese. After that, the title passed to the newly built St. Barbara's Church, which was demolished in 1970. Since 1968, the Episcopal Church was transferred to the St. Michael's Church in Brabant Park, which was demolished again in 2007. Since 2001, Built in 1837, St. Anthony's church is again cathedra of the Bishop of Breda.
