Roman Catholic Diocese of Brescia

The diocese of Brescia (Latin: Dioecesis Brixiensis, Italian: Diocese of Brescia ) is a diocese of the Roman Catholic Church to the northern Italian city of Brescia. It is subject to the Archdiocese of Milan, and includes 470 parishes. The territory of the diocese extends over the entire province of Brescia and a part of the province of Bergamo.

History

The missionary work of the area around Brescia probably came from the neighboring Milan. The diocese of Brescia established in the 1st century and since then has been the Archdiocese of Milan.

During the reign of Emperor Hadrian and the brothers Faustino and Jovita fell by 120 in Brescia persecution of Christians victimized and martyred. As Saints in the Catholic Church today they are the patron saints of the city and diocese of Brescia.
