Roman Catholic Diocese of Buenaventura

The Diocese of Buenaventura (Latin: Dioecesis Bonaventurensis, Spanish: diócesis de Buenaventura ) is a location in Columbia Roman Catholic diocese based in Buenaventura.

History

The Diocese of Buenaventura was founded on November 14, 1952 by Pope Pius XII. built with the Papal Bull Mater Ecclesia Provvida out of territory of the Diocese of Cali and the Apostolic Prefecture of Tumaco as Apostolic Vicariate of Buenaventura. On 30 November 1996, the Apostolic Vicariate of Buenaventura was elevated by Pope John Paul II to the diocese and the Archdiocese of Cali is a suffragan.
