Roman Catholic Diocese of Innsbruck

The Diocese of Innsbruck (Latin: Dioecesis Oenipontana ) is an Austrian diocese of the Ecclesiastical Province of Salzburg. She is responsible for the western and central parts of North Tyrol and East Tyrol for (see Tyrol). The border with the Archdiocese of Salzburg is for historical reasons, the river Ziller in the Ziller Valley.

It is divided into 16 deaneries ( Axams, Breitenwang, Hall, Imst, Innsbruck, Jenbach - joining, Lienz Matrei am Brenner Matrei in East Tyrol, Prutz, Schwaz, Sillian, Silz, Telfs, Wilten country and Zams ), there are 246 parishes of the diocese.

Patron of the Diocese is Peter Canisius, who also worked in Tyrol from 1560 to 1580.

History

The territory of the Diocese of Innsbruck long time belonged to the diocese of Bressanone, individual parts of the country until the 19th century, to the diocese of Chur and the diocese of Augsburg. After the First World War with the separation of South Tyrol the " Apostolic Administration of Innsbruck - Feldkirch " the Austrian part of the Diocese of Brixen was established. Sigismund Waitz received as Apostolic Administrator and Bishop the powers of a bishop.

1938, the later diocesan Bishop Dr. Paul Rusch was appointed Apostolic Administrator. On 6 August 1964, the Diocese of Innsbruck - Feldkirch Dr. Paul Rusch from 26 September was established, presided as the first diocesan bishop. Originally, the newly established diocese was also responsible for the state of Vorarlberg, Feldkirch, however, the diocese was founded in the state of Vorarlberg, and thus changed the name to the Diocese of Innsbruck in 1968.
