Roman Catholic Diocese of Nyundo

The diocese Nyundo (Latin: Dioecesis Nyundoensis ) is a location in Rwanda Roman Catholic diocese based in Nyundo.

History

Pope Pius XII. founded the Apostolic Vicariate Surabaia on February 14, 1952 from annexations of the Apostolic Vicariate of Rwanda. With the Apostolic Constitution Cum parvulum it was collected on 10 November 1959 in the rank of a bishopric, which was the Archdiocese of Kigali is a suffragan.

Parts of its territory it lost in favor of the establishment of the following dioceses:

  • December 20, 1960 to the Diocese of Ruhengeri;
  • November 5, 1981 to the bishopric of Cyangugu.

Territory

The diocese comprises the districts Nyundo Karongi, Ngororero, Nyabihu, Rubavu and Rutsiro in the Rwandan West Province.
