Roman Catholic Diocese of Port-Louis

Located on the island of Mauritius Diocese of Port-Louis (Latin: Portus Dioecesis Ludovici ) is a Roman Catholic diocese based in Port Louis and includes Mauritius and the British Indian Ocean Territory.

The diocese was founded on June 6, 1837 as Apostolic Vicariate of Mauritius from the Apostolic Vicariate of Cape of Good Hope, where on December 7, 1847 independent diocese and was in 1852 the Seychelles from where an independent Seychelles Apostolic Prefecture was established.

Originally a mission led by the English Benedictines, it moved to the beginning of the 20th century in the responsibility of the Irish Holy Ghost Fathers. 1950 141 941 already counting Catholics ( 33.9%) in 37 parishes with 27 diocesan priests, 34 religious priests and 310 nuns, there was on 31 October 2002 from some areas in support of the Apostolic Vicariate of Rodrigues and then still counted 245 639 Catholics ( 21.5 %) in 49 parishes with 58 diocesan priests, 42 religious priests and 234 nuns to 1843 km ².
