Roman Catholic Diocese of Santiago del Estero

Located in Santiago del Estero Argentina diocese (Latin: Sancti Jacobi Dioecesis de Estero ) was separated on 25 March 1907 by the Apostolic Prefecture of Tumaco and built as a separate diocese.

The church province of Tucumán owned and 81,969 km ² large diocese counted in 1950 to 655,000 Catholics. Today there are still only 586,000 Catholics, representing 90 % of the population in this region. In the diocese of 39 diocesan priests, 20 religious priests and 82 nuns work in 43 parishes. On 1 March 1961, joined some of his territories from the establishment of the diocese Anatuya.
