Juan Carlos Maccarone

Juan Carlos Maccarone (* October 19, 1940 in Buenos Aires ) is a retired Argentine bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Santiago del Estero.

Life

Maccarone was born in 1940 in Buenos Aires. After leaving school, he studied Roman Catholic theology. He received on 17 December 1968, the ordination. Pope John Paul II appointed him Auxiliary Bishop on January 30, 1993 in Lomas de Zamora and Titular Bishop of Mauriana.

The Bishop of Lomas de Zamora, Desiderio Elso Collino, donated to him on 21 April of the same year, the episcopal ordination; Co-consecrators were Hector Gabino Romero, Bishop of Rafaela, and José María Arancedo, Bishop of Mar del Plata. On 3 July 1996 he was appointed Bishop of Chascomús and introduced into the office on 24 September of the same year. On February 18, 1999, he was appointed bishop of Santiago del Estero ( province ) and introduced into the office on 29 May of the same year.

According to various media reports, an Argentine newspaper in 2005 reported their was a video being offered, the Maccarone show with a young man during intercourse. Messages from the Los Angeles Times and the Catholic News Agency confirm the existence of such a video and bring it in connection with his resignation from the office of bishop. According to dpa the spokesman of the Archdiocese did not rule out in the capital, Buenos Aires, that there could be a "politically motivated revenge ". Maccarone had vigorously for the poor employed in his province, and fought against corruption. The newspaper said that it had the information of an influential entrepreneurs from the province.

Maccarone came on 19 August 2005 without giving reasons as Roman Catholic bishop back. The resignation was by Pope Benedict XVI. accepted.
