Roman Catholic Diocese of Yopougon

The Diocese of Yopougon (Latin: Dioecesis Yopugonensis ), located in the city of Yopougon, a former district of the former city of Abidjan is a young Catholic diocese in the Archdiocese of Abidjan on the Ivory Coast.

History

The Diocese Yopougan was established on 8 June 1982 by the Archdiocese of Abidjan was divided. It includes the Agnéby region without Agboville and part of the Lagunes region ( Dabou, Tissalé, Sikensi, Taabo, Songon and the city Yopougon ). The area of ​​the diocese is 12,640 km ². It is bordered on the south by the sea, on the east by the Archdiocese of Abidjan, in the north- east by the Diocese Abengourou, on the north by the Diocese of Yamoussoukro and to the west by the diocese Gagnoa. On 14 October 2006, the pastoral circle Agboville was elevated to a separate diocese.

Yopougon is a cosmopolitan diocese in whose melting pot meet more or less all the ethnic groups of Côte d'Ivoire as well as foreigners. Immigrant ethnic groups are: Ebrié, Alladjan, Adioukrou, Anyi, Akye, Abé, Krobou, Abidji and Baule.

Education

The diocese is involved in addition to the religious education ( catechesis ) in education. It performs secondary schools in Dabou and Yopougon, next to a girls' boarding school in Agboville and kindergartens in Yopougon. Religious Life
