Roman Catholic Diocese of Zomba

The Diocese of Zomba (Latin: Dioecesis Zombaensis ) is a location in Malawi Roman Catholic diocese based in Zomba.

History

Pope Pius XII. founded the Apostolic Vicariate of Zomba on May 15, 1952 from annexations of the Apostolic Vicariate Shire. On 29 April 1956, lost part of its territory in favor of the establishment of the Vicariate Apostolic of Dedza.

With the Apostolic Constitution Cum christiana fides, it was raised on 25 April 1959 bishopric, which was the Archdiocese of Blantyre is a suffragan. On May 15, 1969, lost part of its territory in favor of the establishment of the Apostolic Prefecture of Fort Johnston.
