Roman Catholic Territorial Prelature of Trondheim
The Prelature of Trondheim (often referred to by its old name Central Norway ) is a Catholic Gebietsprälatur based in Trondheim. It is headed by a bishop, but does not have the status of a diocese. Since the term Prelature is unknown in Norway, where the term pin is used. In practice, it works like a diocese.
History
The first organized Catholic activity in Trondheim after the Reformation happened in 1844, when five Catholics asked for the visit of a priest from Oslo in the city. In 1872 the first church was established. In 1931, with the Breve Supremi Apostolatus by Pius XI. the Vicariate Apostolic of Norway is divided into three districts jurisdiction, and Central Norway became the Mission District. At 1935 this was with the Bull Digna sane by Pius XII. elevated to the Apostolic Prefecture, on February 4, 1953 with the bull Sollemne est Nobis for Vicariate and on 28 March 1979 with the bull Cum Nobis by John Paul II finally to Territorialprälatur.

The Prelature includes parishes in Trondheim, Kristiansund, Levanger, Molde and Ålesund.
