Ron Gettelfinger

Ronald Gettelfinger Anthony ( born August 1, 1944 in Depauw, Indiana), the general public usually called Ron Gettelfinger, is an American union official. From 2002 to 2010 he was president of the United Auto Workers (UAW ), a union that represents those workers in the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico in the automotive industry and is one of North America to the largest and most influential trade unions.

Life

Ron Gettelfinger was born in 1944 in Depauw as one of twelve children in a farming family. After high school he joined the Marine Corps Reserve in 1976, he acquired in evening classes a bachelor's degree in business administration at Indiana University Southeast. He is married and father of two children.

His union activities began in 1964 in a work of Ford Motor Company in Louisville, Kentucky, where he worked as a coachbuilder and in 1984 took over the management of the local union representative. From 1987 he was a member of the bargaining committee of the UAW for collective bargaining with Ford, later he became director of UAW Region 3 representative for the states of Indiana and Kentucky, and in 1998, UAW Vice President and Director of the UAW - Ford Department of

In June 2002, he took over from Stephen Yokich the office of President of the UAW, four years later he was re-elected for another term. He was succeeded in June 2010 Bob King.
