Ron Johnson (businessman)

Ronald B. "Ron" Johnson ( born 1959 ) is an American businessman. Between 2000 and 2011 he headed the retail range of Apple and was the CEO from 2011 to 2013 at the department store chain JC Penney.

He received a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Stanford University and an MBA at Harvard University.

Johnson first worked 16 years with the U.S. retail chain Target and had worked as a senior merchandising executive.

In 2000 he moved to Apple, where she organized the building of a company's retail presence. By 2011, about 350 Apple retail stores were opened in 11 countries worldwide. These systems represent a novel concept, is placed on the interaction of the visitors with the very large value with the products. To this are almost exclusively issued functioning products implement which may be used by the customer; Shelves and other similar elements typical of other stores do not exist. This concept is seen as a key reason for the success of Apple's retail stores.

In June 2011, the U.S. department store chain JC Penney announced that Ron Johnson will take over as CEO from 1 November 2011. Johnson described it as his dream, " to lead a large retail chain, to reinvent it ." In the spring of 2013 it was announced that Johnson was fired at JC Penney, after its strategy showed no commercial success.
