Rona de Sus
Rona de Sus ( Upper Rohnen German, Hungarian Felsőróna, Ukrainian Вишня Рівня / Wyschnja Riwnja ) is a town in Maramureş County in Romania.
Location
The municipality is located in the mountains near the Ukrainian border. The city Sighetu Marmaţiei lies about 16 km to the west.
Traffic
Through the village the national road (drum National) DN 18 connecting Sighetu Marmaţiei with Moiseja runs.
Infrastructure
There are five kindergartens and two schools.
Population
In the village live mainly Ukrainians. In the 2002 census, known from the then 4698 inhabitants, 4062 the Ukrainian, Romanian 201, 421 to the Hungarian and five on the German nationality.
Sight
In the village there is the statue of St.. John of Nepomuk and the Orthodox Monastery of the Assumption.
History
The first written record of the village took place about 1360 in a document of King Louis I of Hungary, where she was listed under the name Felsew ówna. From the 14th century a salt mine was operated in the open pit. In 1934, the closure because the deposits were exhausted.
