Roquetes

Tortosa is a Catalan city in the province of Tarragona, in northeastern Spain. It is located in the comarca of Baix Ebre.

Location

Tortosa is located about 70 kilometers southwest of Tarragona on the lower reaches of the Ebro.

History

The origin of the town is considered a Moorish manor. After the recapture of Tortosa belonged first to Tortosa. It was not until 1850, when it became independent.

During the Spanish War of Independence against Napoleon from 1807 to 1814 Tortosa served as the headquarters of the French troops for the attack on Tortosa. During the First Carlist War, it was occupied in 1833.

  • Over a 19- kilometer mountain road can be reached from Tortosa to lie on the boundary Mont Caro. It is located in the Parc Natural dels Ports and is 1441 meters above sea level the highest peak in the province of Tarragona
