Rörstrand

Rörstrand was a Swedish factory on the territory of modern Stockholm that produced earthenware, porcelain and ceramics. Rörstrand employed some of the most important Scandinavian Designers porcelain.

History of the Manufacture

The factory was founded in 1726 Rörstrand in the village of the same name at that time, today's Stockholm district Birkastan. A subsidiary by the name of Arabia was founded in 1873 in Finland in order to allow trade with Russia. 1881 Rörstrand began with the production of Feldspar porcelain, the porcelain type of China is the most similar to the original. 1914 acquired Rörstrand Göteborgs porslinsfabrik. 1926 Rörstrand moved over to Gothenburg and the factory was demolished in Stockholm (the former porcelain heap is preserved as a national monument, the coordinates point to this point ). 1936 Rörstrand moved to Lidköping, which is since 1939 the headquarters of the company. 1963 Rörstrand became part of the Upsala Ekeby Group. 1984 bought by the Finnish company Wärtsilä Rörstrand and three years later Gustavsbergs china factory. In 1990, the Finnish Hackman Group, and from 2000 the company called Oy Ab Designor Today Rörstrand part of the Iittala based in Höganäs (Sweden). Since it has been produced in Sweden only at a loss, Iittala moved production to the beginning of 2006 to Sri Lanka and Hungary. With the simultaneous closure of the factory in Lidköping / Sweden thus ending the almost 280 -year history of the Swedish -based company Rörstrand.

What is still left is now at the origin place of the factory in Stockholm, is a porcelain stockpile consisting of aussortiertem and broken porcelain. The heap is a listed building.
