Rose Philippine Duchesne

Rose Philippine Duchesne ( born August 29, 1769 in Grenoble, France, † November 18, 1852 in St. Charles, Missouri) was a French nun and is a saint of the Roman Catholic Church.

Life

Rose Philippine Duchesne joined the newly founded community of the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in 1804. There she held various roles and worked for several years as a personal confidant of the foundress Magdalene Sophie Barat. On November 21, 1805 took the vows. Some time she headed the Sacre-Coeur- boarding of the Company in Grenoble. She later became Secretary General of the Society in Paris.

One of the Bishop of Louisiana in May 1817 following request, sent the Superior of the Congregation, Magdalena Sophie Barat, Phillipine rose in the United States. In 1818 she settled down with four sisters in St. Charles in the Archdiocese of New Orleans. In the following years, she founded several branches of their order in the United States. In North America they founded several novitiates and schools and could significantly expand the Congregation. In 1840 she worked as a missionary among the Indians in Sugar Creek. Rose Philippine Duchesne was on May 12, 1940, Pope Pius XII. beatified Pope John Paul II canonized on 3 July 1988.
