Roseanna Cunningham

Roseanna Cunningham ( born July 27, 1951 in Glasgow ) is a Scottish politician and member of the Scottish National Party ( SNP).

Life

Cunningham grew up in Australia. She attended the John Curtin High School in Freemantle and then the University of Western Australia, which left her with a bachelor's degree in politics. Cunningham returned to Scotland and was between 1977 and 1979 worked for the SNP. In 1982, she earned a bachelor's degree in law from the University of Edinburgh and then initially worked until 1986 as a Solicitor in the district of Dumbarton, then to 1989 in the district of Glasgow.

Political career

1982 Cunningham stepped in to the council elections for the region Lothian District Haymarket / Tollcross, but lost significantly. In the general election, 1992, she went to the SNP in the constituency of Perth and Kinross, however, was subject to the long-term constituency winner Nicholas Fairbairn of the Conservative Party. However, this died in 1995, so new elections were conducted in this constituency, which won Cunningham. Under the following regular general election in 1997, she joined the newly formed constituency of Perth won that also.

In the Scottish Parliament elections in 1999, she joined the SNP in the constituency of Perth, won the direct mandate and moved into the newly created Scottish Parliament. In the shadow cabinet of the SNP she was assigned as Minister of Justice. In the parliamentary elections in 2003 and 2007 Cunningham defended her constituency. As part of the reshuffle in 2009, Cunningham was appointed Minister of the Environment. As part of the constituency reform of 2011, the constituency was abolished in Perth. A good part of the area went up in the newly created constituency Perthshire South and Kinross -shire, for the Cunningham took in the parliamentary elections of 2011. They won a significant victory against the candidate of the Conservative Party. In the newly formed Cabinet Salmond II Cunningham holds the office of the Secretary of State for Community Safety and Legal Affairs.
