Rosie MacLennan

Rosannagh ( "Rosie" ) MacLennan ( born August 28, 1988 in Toronto, Ontario ) is a Canadian trampoline gymnast. In the 2012 Olympics she won the gold medal.

Career

MacLennan took first time in 2005 at the World Championships in trampoline gymnastics and won there together with her partner Karen Cockburn immediately awarded the silver medal in synchronized competition. In the home World Championships in Quebec two years later, the duo became world champion in the same discipline, MacLennan also won the silver medal with the team and the bronze medal in singles. Thus, she also managed to qualify for the Olympic Games. In the same year MacLennan won at the Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro silver in singles. For her performance, she was awarded one of the 2007 Ontario Sports Awards.

At the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008 she reached the finals of the trampoline competition, where she won but only seventh. At the 2009 World Championships, she won silver in synchronized competition and bronze in the team before they won the bronze medal a year later in singles. 2011 won the Canadian at the World Championships again in synchronized gymnastics silver and bronze with the team, they also won the silver medal in singles. For the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico, first her teammate Karen Cockburn was nominated to represent Canada for trampoline competitions, but these could not compete in the finals due to illness. MacLennan, who had lain in qualifying behind her colleague in second place, winning the final three points clear with almost their first gold medal at the Pan American Games. Thus, they also qualified for the 2012 Olympics.

At the 2012 Olympic Games in London MacLennan was after qualifying first in fourth place and moved so that the final. There she achieved in a fault- free exercise 57.305 points, which was a new personal high score for them. After none of the Chinese athletes who competed for her, was able to achieve a better result, MacLennan won the Olympic gold medal with a lead of more than half a point. They thus won the only gold medal for Canada at the Olympic Games in 2012.
