Roslin (Midlothian)

Roslin (sometimes written to Rosslyn or Roslyn ) is a village of about 1,820 inhabitants ( 2004 estimate )., Midlothian, Scotland. It is approximately 10 kilometers south of Edinburgh

Roslin is known for the Rosslyn Chapel, Roslin Castle and the Battle of Roslin ( 1303). The Roslin Institute, where Dolly the sheep was cloned, is also located there, as well as a park, Roslin Glen.

The name comes from the Celtic ross Roslin, a rocky hill, and lynn, a waterfall.

The legend says that the village was founded in 203 by the Picts Asterius.

Since the Rosslyn Chapel was shown in the Hollywood blockbuster The Da Vinci Code, the number of visitors has risen sharply in Roslin.
