Ross and Cromarty

Ross and Cromarty was from 1890 to 1975 an administrative county in the north of Scotland. Administrative headquarters was the town of Dingwall. Ross and Cromarty covered an area of 7971 km ².

History

The traditional Scottish counties of Ross-shire and Cromartyshire 1889 were merged to form the administrative county of Ross and Cromarty. In 1975, the administrative county was dissolved and divided between the District of Ross and Cromarty Highland region and the new County Western Isles. 1996, all districts of the Highland region were closed and out of the region, the Council Area Highland was formed.
