River morphology

The morphology of the Rossel is divided into several sections:

Above the mill Grochewitzer the bed of Rossel is conducted substantially in the developed and regulated drainage canals. This expansion seems old maps according to be done before 1912. In the area of meadows little tree and shrub growth on the banks exists.

From the Grochewitzer mill to the entrance Mühlstedt the Rossel has in many areas a very natural character. It meanders through the meadows and woods. The riparian zone is dominated by alder and willow plantings. In the former mills, the river bed is expanded.

From Mühlstedt the Rossel is expanded again. The development ranges from a straightening of the river up to a full extension with retaining walls ( in the water tunnel and partly in the municipal area Roßlau ).

Traffic routes

Between Thießen and Mühlstedt the railway Wiesenburg -Roßlau crosses the course of Rossel. Between My village and Roßlau the Rossel crosses under water tunnel in the former goods station Roßlauer with the railroad tracks Wiesenburg -Roßlau and Roßlau-Falkenberg/Elster. The mouth of the Rossel is just below the Elbe bridge the railway line Trebnitzgrund -Leipzig.

In Hundeluft the Rossel 187a crosses the country road 121, the former federal highway. From Hundeluft to Roßlau the country road runs 120 at some distance parallel to Rossel. In Roßlau the Rossel crosses under the highway 187 just before the mouth of the Elbe crossing bridge with the federal highway 184 which Rossel.

Structures

In Hundeluft existed in the Middle Ages a moated castle, of which only a few ruins are available today. The ruined medieval castle Roßlau 1836-38 was extensively renovated in the neo-gothic - romantic zeitgeist.

Previously stood twelve mills on the Rossel. Some are today as a museum (copper hammer Thießen, mill Hundeluft ), pension (Buchholz mill), used senior residence (Official mill Roßlau ) or as event and meeting center (oil mill Roßlau ).

In my village, the village of Europe architectural firms and construction companies has been planned from various European countries and the houses built in typical local construction in the 1990s on the banks of Rossel.

Historical Events

On February 8, 1414 Castle Hundeluft of Prince Albrecht of Zerbst was taken after a short siege. The robber baron Cuno and Godemar Walwitz fled to Dessau.

At the same bridge, right at the mouth of the Rossel Protestant forces met during the Thirty Years' War on 25 April 1626 the Battle of Dessau under Count Mansfeld to an imperial army under Wallenstein and were beaten by this.

Flood protection

Extreme flooding in the upper reaches of the Rossel are not known. However, it came at the Elbe floods several times to flooding of deeper areas of the Roßlauer urban area by backwater. Therefore, a pumping station will be built at the crossing of serving as flood dam in this area B187. The work should initially begin in spring 2010 and be completed in early 2011. Construction began finally in September 2012.

During the Elbhochwassers 2002 was provided and was prepared to terminate the Rossel below My village waterfront tunnel and use the nearby south of my village greens as a retention area to prevent further flooding areas of Roßlauer Undercity. This measure was not performed because sufficient fire department pumper could be procured, which stood on the B187 and promoted the water of Rossel into the Elbe.
